Dr James H Butler III

The late Dr James Butler was a founding Director of Tri-Star, and was the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tri-Star.
Dr Butler had more than 50 years oil and gas exploration and production experience in many countries, including USA, Mexico, China, Argentina and Australia, working in senior management positions with responsibility for exploration and production.

His geological expertise led to significant discoveries across the globe.  For example, in 1970, he helped to further the life of the Charcas gold mine in Mexico when he discovered further resources were concealed by a fault line beneath the original, depleted reserve.  In 1987, Dr Butler and his son, Dr James Butler Jr, identified significant coal and coal seam gas reserves in Australia’s Surat, Bowen, Georgina and Pedirka basins.

Dr Butler was a graduate of the Colorado School of Mines, a Fellow of the American Association for Advancement of Science and both a registered professional engineer in Texas, USA and a petroleum geologist certified by the American Association of Petroleum Geologists.
